Life without TV...

I don't have cable TV in my apartment. Yes, I know shocking... No, I don't even have the 'regular' channels like ABC, CBS, etc. I have a TV- but only for movies. Why would you do that, you ask?

Well, I'm addicted in some senses to TV. I don't know how to turn it off when I need to and honestly, I get a LOT more done because of not having it. A lot of TV shows, I'll just watch reruns after reruns just to have something on- something to look at. I will watch what I call 'trash' tv- like Paris Hilton's Best Friend(whatever its called) to even QVC.

So about a year ago, one of my family friends, kinda put a whisper in my ear about not having TV. I thought he was crazy and then the thought of it- was just an awesome idea. First, I would have no "couch potato" time and I could do a lot more. Second, I would save money. Third, I would read/watch movies more. All three have somewhat come true. I have been doing more and focusing on things that I need to be working on (job, masters, family, friends) and my reading of books has become an important part of my life. (The Amazon Kindle...if you haven't heard of it- let me tell you- REVOLUTIONIZES your life for a reader like me-another addiction).

Now, let me just say that I'm not perfect on totally giving up the TV. I watch a lot of You Tube in order to get episodes of Project Runway, Top Chef and I use MTV to get my episodes of "The Hills"(yes, i'm 30 and watch it). I also watch Regis/Kelly and The View everyday... why? well, it's my relaxation after work and it tunes me in on what people are talking about. I read a LOTT on msn.com and yahoo.com(not the best sources- but those are mine) and I feel kinda with it when I'm in conversations about tv shows/etc. The only thing- commercials- I don't really know. Oh well, one loss. Oh, another one--> The Olympics. I only got to watch- oh, 10 minutes of it(while I was at a friend's house)- and thats about it. SAD. I even asked what the Bird Nest was, and I got looked at like I was crazy. No Micheal Phelps winning- no other moments. Also, I almost missed the election night- but MSNBC.com to the rescue- live streaming- so I got to see everything but missed out on changing channels/finding out about local ballot measures.

So in case you're wondering what I did this Thanksgiving Break? If you've ever been to the "compound" in Fresno as one of my friends calls it, then you know how relaxing it is. I have a big screen TV in my room- and yea, I basically watched marathons of "Jon and Kate Plus 8"(to remind me why I never want kids), "What Not to Wear"(saw/said hi to Stacy London at an Oprah Conference and now a fan for life)...and anything else that was on. Productivity=Zero but relaxation=100. My dog, mister Gubbar Singh, loved me being home as well as my family of course.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving Break...
